ABOUT
ARCHIJUNKIE
The
idea of Archijunkie was conceived in 1999, when the
AIAS chapter of Hobart and William Smith Colleges
issued a series of newsletters about contemporary
architecture issues using a very simple format of
opinion articles and interviews. The idea later developed
further in 2004 in the MIT Architecture student publication
of Pinup.
When
we specify an issue to explore we intend to simply
gather important ideas based on different perspectives,
and arrange them in a way that will compose a complete
picture of the issue while keeping it open to the
interpretation of the reader. We do not intent to
define the term, explain the truth or argue for a
particular position, simply because we do not believe
in absolute truth, and we are too ignorant to have
any actual position (at least in the beginning of
our explorations). Our intention is simply to initiate
a conversation whose subject will revolve around our
general subject, but will also be free to touch on
the issues, like basic questions related to the architect's
place in the world, the evolution of practice through
time and a lot more. The core of our research is usually
a questinnaire, to which the contributors are invited
to react through conversation or articles. The end
result is a collage of articles and interviews that
are put together to help the architects/ readers make
up their own minds in regards to what is, what matters
and where they belong.
